How to play 2048 · Retro

• Click inside the game, then use the arrow keys to slide the tiles. Equal tiles merge into one tile with twice the value, adding that value to your score.
• Choose Easy, Medium, or Hard from the difficulty menu. In this version, those settings start the board with three, two, or one tile respectively. Changing the setting starts a new game.
• Work toward a 2048 tile while keeping room to move. A new tile appears after a move that changes the board; the game ends when no moves remain.

Press M or use the Sound button to toggle sound. New Game resets the board. This embedded version uses keyboard controls; choose standard 2048 below if you want swipe controls.

Which 2048 version should I choose?

Both versions merge equal tiles on a 4×4 grid. Standard 2048 supports arrow keys and swipes. Retro 2048 uses arrow keys and adds animated effects, a sound toggle, and a choice of starting boards.

The Retro difficulty labels change the initial tile count, not the merge rules: Easy starts with three tiles, Medium with two, and Hard with one. Choose standard 2048 if you want to swipe on the board.
