How to play 2048

• Use an arrow key or swipe on the board to move every tile in that direction.
• When two tiles with the same value meet, they merge and add to your score. A new tile appears after a move that changes the board.
• Keep space for another move. The game ends when the board is full and no neighboring tiles can merge.

Use New Game to reset the board. The score and best score are shown above the grid.

Which 2048 version should I choose?

Both versions merge equal tiles on a 4×4 grid. Standard 2048 supports arrow keys and swipes. Retro 2048 uses arrow keys and adds animated effects, a sound toggle, and a choice of starting boards.

The Retro difficulty labels change the initial tile count, not the merge rules: Easy starts with three tiles, Medium with two, and Hard with one. Choose standard 2048 if you want to swipe on the board.
